Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki passes away at 56

Campus Today Desk: Susan Wojcicki, the former CEO of YouTube and long-time Google executive, has passed away at the age of 56, her husband Dennis Troper confirmed.

In a social media post late Friday, Troper shared the news, stating, “My beloved wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left us today after battling non-small cell lung cancer for two years. Susan was not only my best friend and life partner but also a brilliant mind, a loving mother, and a cherished friend to many.”

Further details about her passing have not been disclosed.

Wojcicki, who was instrumental in Google’s development, stepped down as YouTube CEO in 2023 after nine years leading the platform that significantly impacted entertainment, culture, and politics.

Earlier in her career, Wojcicki played a pivotal role when she rented the garage of her Menlo Park home to Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin for $1,700 a month shortly after they launched their search engine in 1998.

Tragically, Wojcicki and Troper’s 19-year-old son, Marco Troper, passed away in February while attending UC Berkeley as a freshman.
